Short biography of the Japanese Ukiyo-e painter Tsukioka Yoshitoshi.
The Japanese Ukiyo-e painter Tsukioka Yoshitoshi
was born in 1839, Edo, Tokyo. The real name of him is Owariya Yonejiro (
Chiappa ). In 1850 he start to studied at the Kuniyoshi School (
CastleFineArts ). His teacher and the great Master of the Ukiyo-e, Utawaga
Kuniyoshi gave to him the name Yoshitoshi. He made his first print Art work
in 1853 at the age of 14. Slowly he became a great painter and in 1870 he
was the famous Artist in Japan. Yoshitoshi had mental problems in 1871 and
get depressed. The Prints with Violence accent were not liked by the public.
He changed the name of him in 1873 to Taiso, ( great resurrection ).
Tsukioka Yoshitoshi lose the control of the mind of him in 1891. He still
worked but the mental illness get stronger. The Japanese Ukiyo-e Printmaker
died in 1892.
