Short biography of the Flemish painter Rogier van der Weyden. |
The Flemish painter Rogier van der Weyden born in Tournai, ca 1400. Aka Rogier de Bruxelles or Rogier de la Pasture. This Dutch Master was one of the greatest Northern European and Flemish painters of the fifteenth century. His first Art lessons he had in 1427 from the famous Master painter Robert Campin. He settled in Doornik in 1432 and in 1435 in Bruxelles where he became a city painter. Rogier van der Weyden traveled to Rome and Florence in 1450. The Altar pieces are famous from him. He had also his own work shop and one of his pupils was Hans Memling. The Dutch Flemish painter van der Weyden died in 1464, Bruxelles, Belgium. |
