Short biography of the Rococo painter Jean Antoine Watteau.

The French Rococo painter Jean Antoine Watteau born in Valenciennes, 1684. The first teacher of him was the local painter Jacques Albert Gerin. In 1702 he moved to Paris where he worked in an Art studio at Pont Notre Dame. In Paris he started to make copies of popular Dutch and Flemish genre paintings. A year later he became the assistant of Claude Gillot in his work shop. He started to work with Claude Audran in Luxembourg, 1708. The painter Peter Paul Rubens had a great influence on the Art works from Watteau. He returned in 1715 to Paris and get befriend with Pierre Crozat, an Art Collector. The Rococo painter Jean Antoine Watteau died near Paris, 1721.
