The Belgian Romantic painter Antoine Wiertz born in
Dinant, Belgium, 1806. He entered in 1820 the Art Academy in Antwerp. From
1829 till 1832 Wiertz stayed and lived in Paris. He studied there at the
Louvre. In 1832 he became at his 2nd attempt the Prix de Rome. After
that the Romanic painter settled in Rome from 1834 till 1837, in the
same year he returned back to Belgian, Liege. He left this city in 1845
after his mother dead and went to Brussels. In Brussels he opened his
own work shop what later became a museum, the Wiertz Museum. The Belgian
Romantic painter died in his Art studio, Brussels, 1865. |
