The German Renaissance painter Martin Schongauer. Born
in Colmar, Elsass in Germany. The exact date is unknown. German
printmaker, painter and engraver. One of the most well know and
important print makers before the famous Albrecht Durer. In Italy his
prints are signed with the names Martino d'Anversa and Bellendo Martino.
We think he was trained by the great Master Hyatt Mayor. As painter, he
support the Flemish painter Rogier van der Weyden. The German painter
Schongauer died in in Colmar, Germany in 1491. |
