The American painter Eastman Johnson born in the South West of Maine, US, 1824. Started his training in Boston as a lithographer (1840). After that he settled in Portland. Eastman Johnson traveled in 1848 to Germany and studied there at the Academy in Dusseldorf. A few years later in 1851 he stayed in the Hague, Netherlands till 1855. He became a great Realistic portrait painter. He returned back in 1855 to America and lived in New York. He was one of the important and famous American painters of the 19th century. Eastman Johnson died in 1906, New York, US. |
