The English Rococo painter Thomas Gainsborough born in 1727, Sudbury, Suffolk, England. A portrait and English Landscape painter. When he had the age of thirteen he went to London, studied art and drawings. He worked in several studio's and workshops. Two of them where the engraver and draughtsman Hubert Gravelot and the illustrator and scene painter Francis Hayman. After that he started in Ipswich as a portrait painter. Gainsborough moved to Bath in 1760 and in 1768 he became a member of the Academy Royal. He went to London in 1774 and made there a few great master works. He died in 1788 from illness. |
