Short biography from the Italian Early Renaissance painter Benozzo Gozzoli ( ca 1420 - 1497 ). |

The Italian Early Renaissance painter Benozzo Gozzoli born in Florence, Italy, ca 1420. He started to work with the great painter Fra Angelico when he was 27 years old. After that Gozzoli worked for Lorenzo Ghiberti. The two painters influenced much in his Art works. He went to Montefalco, Umbria in 1449 where he painted Frescoes for the churches San Francesco and San Fortunato there. When he finished he moved to Florence, to paint there for the Medici Chapel. Ca 1463 till 1467 Gozzoli stayed in San Gimignano, where he painted for the Sant Agostino church and the Santa Maria Assunta Church. Then he went to Pisa and Legoli to paint some famous frescoes works. The Early Renaissance painter died in 1497. |
