Short biography from the French Realist painter Henri Fantin Latour ( 1836 - 1904 ). |

The French Realist painter Henri Fantin Latour born in 1836 in Grenoble. He moved with his family to Paris in 1841. The first lessons he had from his father, a portrait painter and a drawing teacher. About 1850 till 1854 he studied at Lecoq de Boisbaudran. Followed with the school Ecole des Beaux - Arts, just for a short time. After that he start to worked in the studio shop from Courbet. He copied many art works from famous old Masters. In the Louvre he met in 1855 Degas, in 1857 Manet, and in 1858 Berthe Morisot. Also in that year he became a friend with Whistler who invited him in 1859 to go to London. He exhibited in 1864 at the Academy Royal. The French Realist painter died in 1904. |
