The Dutch Early Renaissance painter painter Jan van Eyck aka Johannes de Eyck, probably born ca 1385, Maaseyck, in the province Limburg, the Netherlands. He served in The Hague at the court of Bavaria. Van Eyck restoring pictures and painted there, this was till 1425. After 1425 he worked at the court of Burgundy. From 1430 the Flemish painter worked and lived in Bruges. The Dutch painter was the first Master in Europe in portrait paintings and the most popular Flemish painter of his time. The Early Renaissance painter died in Bruges, 1441. |
