The Spanish Mannerist painter El Greco, Greek born Spanish Mannerist painter, aka Domenikos Theotocopoulos aka the Greek. He born Candia, Crete in 1541. We don't know to much of his early life, probably he had his first study in his born city. El Greco went in 1566 to Venice where he stayed with Titian in his work shop till 1570. From 1570 till 1576 he spent his time in Rome, where he be inspired from the artist Michelangelo. Greco left in 1576 Italy and moved to Toledo. He became the greatest and famous Mannerist painter of all. The Spanish painter died in 1614, Toledo. |
