Short biography from the Flemish Baroque painter Anthony van Dyck (1599-1641). |

The Flemish Baroque painter Anthony van Dyck or Antonis van Dijck born in 1599, Antwerp. He had his first lessons when he was 10 years old in the work shop of the painter Hendrick van Balen. Anthony van Dyck had a own shop in 1615 and be in the group of Lucas Guild in 1618. From 1618 till 1620 he was the assistant and pupil of Rubens. At the age of 21 he went to London and Italy. The Flemish painter lived 6 years in Italy and visited Venice, Palermo, Rome but mostly in Genoa. He studied and copied the Masters of the Venetian, as Veronese, Tintoretto and specially Titian. Van Dyck moved back to Antwerp in 1627 and painted there as a court painter. Charles I invited him in 1632 to England. He made 350 paintings, included royal portraits in 10 years. The Flemish Baroque painter died in London, December, 1641. |
