The Flemish painter Petrus Christus from the Netherlands, Petrus Christus was born in Baarle - Hertog, Belgium. He was the pupil of Jan van Eyck. When his teacher died in 1441, Petrus Christus took the master workshop over and finished the uncompleted paintings from van Eyck. Petrus Christus was the first Dutch painter who painted rooms portraits with recognizable interiors. In 1444 he lived and worked in Bruges and had a lot interest in painters as Robert Campin, Rogier van der Weyden and Dieric Bouts. He traveled to Milan, Genoa and Venice ( still unknown when ) and was there active as a painter and brought the style from him to Antonello da Messina and other masters. The painter Petrus Christus died in 1475/76 in Bruges. |
