The Flemish painter Jan Brueghel the Elder born in
Brussels, 1568. A landscape and flower artist. His grandmother, the miniaturist
painter Mayken Verhulst Bessemers gave him the first lessons. After that he had
some different teachers as Gillis van Coninxloo and Pieter Goetkint. Jan
Breughel the Elder went to Italy in 1589. He stayed in Rome, Naples and finished
in Milan where he worked for Federigo Borromeo, a Cardinal. He traveled to
Amsterdam, Netherlands in 1597. We know in 1604 Jan Brueghel moved to Czech. In
1613 he traveled together with Rubens and Hendrick van Balen back to the
Netherlands. Jan Brueghel was a respected painter, had a great collection of art
and was the owner of a few houses in Belgium. The Flemish painter Jan Brueghel
the Elder died from cholera in 1625, Antwerp. |
