Sir Lawrence Alma Tadema (1836-1912)

The English Classicist painter Sir Lawrence Alma Tadema, an ex-patriate who lived in England for the most of his life. The English Classicist painter born on the 8 of January, 1836 in Dronrijp, in the north of the Netherlands. First he studied for a lawyer but in 1851 he moved to Belgian for a study in Antwerp at the Academy there. In 1859 he joined the studio from his teacher Henrik Leys. The English Classicist painter started in 1862 his own career. Lawrence Alma Tadema went to England in 1870, he spent the rest of his life there. He became the most highly paid painter and the famous one of the time he lived. He get a member of the Royal Academy and in 1899 he knighted from Queen Victoria. In 1912 the Dutch born English Classicist painter Sir Lawrence Alma Tadema died.
